Privacy Policy
How Skimwire collects and uses data: site analytics, newsletter signups, cookies, affiliate links and advertising.
Last updated: October 21, 2026
This policy explains what information Skimwire (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit www.skimwire.com or subscribe to our newsletter, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email skimwirehq@gmail.com.
Who we are
Skimwire is an independent tech news publication. The site runs on Ghost(Pro), a hosted publishing platform operated by the Ghost Foundation, which stores and processes site and subscriber data on our behalf.
Information we collect
Site analytics
We use Ghost's built-in analytics to understand how the site is used: which pages are viewed, approximate location (country), referring sites, and device and browser type. We use this data in aggregate to decide what to cover and to improve the site. We do not use it to identify individual readers.
Newsletter and account signups
If you subscribe, we collect your email address and, if you provide it, your name. Ghost also records your subscription status and, for our newsletters, may record whether emails are opened and which links are clicked, so we can measure what's useful to readers. We use your email only to send the newsletters you signed up for and messages about your subscription. We don't sell or rent your email address. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can manage your subscription from the account page on this site.
If we ever offer paid subscriptions, payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply and follow up.
Cookies and similar technologies
- Essential cookies. If you sign in as a subscriber, Ghost sets cookies to keep you signed in and to secure your session.
- Preferences. The site stores your light/dark theme choice in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
- Third-party cookies. Partners such as Amazon (when you click an affiliate link) and, if we run ads, advertising providers like Google may set their own cookies, as described below.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop subscriber sign-in from working.
Affiliate links and the Amazon Associates program
Skimwire is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, Skimwire earns from qualifying purchases. When you click an Amazon link on our site, Amazon may set cookies or use similar technologies to record that the visit came from Skimwire, so it can credit us with qualifying purchases. Amazon's handling of that data is governed by Amazon's privacy notice. We may join other affiliate programs, which work the same way. We do not receive personal information about you from these programs, only aggregate reports of clicks and purchases. See our disclosure page for more.
Advertising
We may show ads on Skimwire in the future, for example through Google AdSense. If we do:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- For more information, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, UK or certain US states), we will ask for your consent before personalized ads are shown.
How we share information
We share information only with service providers who help us run Skimwire (such as Ghost for hosting, analytics and email delivery, and Stripe for any payments), when required by law, or to protect our rights. We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention
We keep subscriber data for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize your data within a reasonable time, unless we need to keep it to meet legal obligations.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email skimwirehq@gmail.com. You can unsubscribe from newsletters at any time using the link in every email.
Children
Skimwire is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes, for example when we add advertising. We'll change the date at the top of this page when we do, and we'll notify subscribers of significant changes.
