The skim

  • The feature: Google Find Hub is rolling out "Notify when left behind" alerts for Bluetooth trackers on Android.
  • Who gets it now: Observed on Chipolo trackers and Moto Tag in the U.S. and parts of Europe, on Find Hub about version 3.1.787-06. Headphones are not included.
  • Home exception: Your saved Home address in Google Maps is excluded by default, so leaving a tag at home should not ping you.

What happened

Google previewed "Left-Behind Reminders" in Google Play services notes in October. On Nov. 5, 9to5Google reported the toggle live in Find Hub. Engadget, Android Authority, and The Verge corroborated the rollout for tracker tags — not headphones — in the U.S. and Europe.

The in-app copy describes it as a way to "Receive a notification when this tag is separated from your phone." Outlets have not published a hard distance or timeout; treat it as a staged rollout, not a finished support document.

How to turn it on

  1. Open the Find Hub app.
  2. Select a supported tag.
  3. Tap the settings gear in the top-right of the bottom sheet.
  4. Enable Notify when left behind.

The toggle is per tracker. For a longer walkthrough with troubleshooting and FAQ, see our guide: How to turn on Notify when left behind in Google Find Hub.

What it does not do (yet)

  • It does not appear for headphones or other non-tracker device types in the reports we checked.
  • Support beyond Chipolo and Moto Tag is unconfirmed — check the gear menu on your own tag.
  • Google's Pixel Tag launch (Nov. 11 per prior coverage) is expected to expand the story, but left-behind for Pixel Tag was not independently re-verified for this edition.

Why it matters

Separation alerts have been table stakes on Apple Find My and Samsung SmartThings for years. Find Hub catching up for Chipolo and Moto Tag closes a basic gap for Android tracker owners — as long as you remember to flip the switch on each tag.
