The Enough Phone is a 5.3-inch Android phone with a replaceable battery, now on Kickstarter
It's iPhone 13 Mini-sized, starts at $399 for early backers and is due to ship in May 2027. Here's what you get and the risks.
The skim
- A startup called Enough has opened Kickstarter preorders for the Enough Phone, a 5.3-inch Android phone with roughly the footprint of an iPhone 13 Mini.
- It has a MediaTek Dimensity 7500, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage plus microSD, a 50MP camera and a battery you can replace with a screwdriver. Updates are promised through 2032.
- Early backers pay $399, and the final retail price will be $599. Shipping is planned for May 2027, and the company says the dates depend on the campaign succeeding.
What happened
The Enough Phone went live on Kickstarter on Nov. 4, and the campaign runs until Dec. 4. Its pitch is a phone that's small, repairable and "enough" for most people rather than a flagship.
The specs listed on Enough's site:
- Display: 5.3-inch LCD at 1520x720.
- Chip and memory: MediaTek Dimensity 7500, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage with microSD expansion.
- Cameras: 50MP Sony IMX766 on the back, 32MP on the front.
- Battery: 3,500mAh, removable behind a screw-down back plate.
- Connectivity: 5G, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, eSIM plus one SIM/microSD slot, and USB-C. There's no wireless charging.
- Body: about 133 x 64 x 12mm in recycled polycarbonate, with a fingerprint reader in the power button.
Buyers can choose a Google-certified build of Android 17 or OdysseyOS, a pared-down, de-Googled version of Android. Ars Technica describes OdysseyOS as behaving like a dumbphone; it doesn't even include a browser.
Why it matters
People have been asking for small phones ever since Apple stopped making the Mini, but few companies still make one. According to Ars Technica, the Enough Phone is almost the same footprint as the iPhone 13 Mini, though it's a bit thicker so the battery can be user-replaceable.
The price climbs as the campaign goes on: $399 for early backers, then $449 and $499, with a final retail price of $599, per Ars Technica. Enough's site blames part of the cost on the AI-driven memory shortage.
The caveats
This is a crowdfunded phone from a company shipping its first product under its own name, so the usual Kickstarter risks apply. Enough's roadmap targets mass production in April 2027 and shipping in May 2027, and it says the dates are subject to change and depend on the campaign's success. The team told Ars Technica it has designed and shipped hardware for other brands as an original design manufacturer.
Some details aren't settled. Waterproofing and durability ratings are still to be decided, and 9to5Google reports the battery could end up anywhere from 3,500mAh to 4,000mAh. Carrier support is also unclear. Ars Technica says it's an unlocked 5G phone, but people on restrictive carriers like Verizon may be out of luck. Check your carrier before you back it.
