## The skim

- The UWANT V500 is a cordless stick vacuum with a floor-standing dock that charges it, holds it upright and, every time you put it back, empties the dust cup into a sealed bag. There's no wall mount to drill and no bin to tip over the trash.
- In Tech Talk With Jeremy's hands-on review, it cleared a line of flour on hard tile in "almost one pass" at full power without scattering it, which he says is the usual failure on tile and hardwood.
- It costs $199.99 on UWANT's US store, down from a $299.99 list price (as of Oct. 29). The ongoing cost is bags. UWANT sells replacements in a $15.99 kit of three bags and two HEPA filters, and that kit was listed as sold out on Thursday.

## What it is

The V500's base does three jobs. It's a charger and a free-standing stand, so nothing needs to be screwed into a wall. It's also a dust station: dock the vacuum and the base pulls the contents of the 0.4-liter dust cup into a sealed, disposable bag. UWANT says a scraper ring inside the cup wipes off dust and hair as it empties, which is its answer to the slow filter clogging that makes older vacuums feel weaker. It also says one bag holds about 60 days of dust. On the [product page](https://uwanthome.com/products/v500-cordless-self-emptying-vacuum-cleaner?ref=skimwire.com), the bag is listed as 1.8 liters in one place and 2 liters in the spec table. Two bags come in the box.

The floor head has a V-shaped brush that UWANT says resists hair wrap, and a green LED that skims across the floor to show fine dust you'd otherwise miss. UWANT's US product page describes the beam as 60 degrees wide.

UWANT's listed specs:

- **Suction:** 50,000 Pa, with three modes (Eco, Standard and Boost) and 350 W rated power
- **Battery:** 7 x 2,500 mAh, up to 60 minutes on the lowest mode, and 3 hours to recharge
- **Filtration:** seven layers, which UWANT says trap 99.98% of particles
- **Noise and weight:** 76 dB, and 6.0 lb assembled
- **Size:** 10.79 x 10.16 x 43.23 inches
- **In the box:** the vacuum, the base station, a 2-in-1 brush tool, a crevice tool and two dust bags

## What the hands-on test found

Jeremy Moon tests vacuums with a "debris ladder": flour, then rice, then kitty litter, then kibble. The order runs from lightest to heaviest because the two ends fail differently. Fine powder gets blown forward or pushed into grout, and heavy pieces get knocked ahead of the head instead of being picked up.

On hard tile at max power, with the green light on, the V500 took the flour line in "almost one pass," he says in the video, and it didn't spray the flour across the floor. His [written review](https://techtalkwithjeremy.com/reviews/uwant-v500-review/?ref=skimwire.com) says the heavier stages "went in without drama." He also liked that the base is slim enough to tuck into a corner, that the handheld comes off for stairs, and that the wand lies almost flat to reach under a couch.

The test covered hard tile only. The review doesn't measure carpet pickup, runtime or noise, so those figures are UWANT's.

## The catch: you're buying bags now

Tipping a bin into the trash costs nothing, but bags do. UWANT's [V500 refill kit](https://uwanthome.com/products/uwant-dust-bags-hepa-filters-for-v500?ref=skimwire.com) has three dust bags and two HEPA filters for $15.99 (list price $19.99), and it showed as sold out on UWANT's store on Oct. 29\. If each bag really lasts the 60 days UWANT claims, one kit's bags would cover about six months. A house with pets or more floor to cover will go through them faster.

The dock also needs floor space, and at 6 pounds assembled the V500 isn't the lightest stick vacuum around. Moon calls both "worth knowing" rather than deal-breakers.

## Price and where to buy

UWANT's US store lists the V500 at [$199.99](https://uwanthome.com/products/v500-cordless-self-emptying-vacuum-cleaner?ref=skimwire.com) with free shipping, 30-day returns and an extra year of warranty, for 1+1 years in total. When we checked on Oct. 29, the [Amazon listing](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H9LBDJ1M?ref=skimwire.com) had no featured offer. Its product text also differs from UWANT's own site: it promises up to 180 days between emptying and a 1-year warranty.

Specs also vary by country. UWANT's [Singapore store](https://www.uwant.sg/products/uwant-v500-cordless-vacuum-cleaner?ref=skimwire.com) lists a V500 rated at 25,000 Pa, half the US figure. If you're buying outside the US, check the local listing before you compare numbers.

## Why it matters

Moon's argument is that suction has stopped being the interesting number, since nearly every cordless stick in this price range has more than enough for a home floor. What separates them now is upkeep: whether a vacuum stays as good as it was on day one, and whether the maintenance it needs is something you'll actually do. A self-emptying dock at $200 bets that people will pay for bags to stop handling dust. If emptying the bin is the chore you put off, that's an easy trade. If paying for consumables bothers you on principle, he says, a conventional stick vacuum does the cleaning for less.
