## The skim

- Apple will unveil 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with touch-enabled OLED screens on Wednesday, Oct. 28, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports. It would be the first Mac with a touchscreen.
- The new models reportedly keep the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, weigh less, and swap the notch for a Dynamic Island. Starting prices could be up to $500 higher than today's.
- Gurman also expects an M6 iMac and an M6 base 14-inch MacBook Pro the same day. Apple hasn't confirmed any of it.

## What happened

In his Power On newsletter on Sunday, Gurman said Apple plans to announce the touchscreen MacBook Pros on Wednesday, [MacRumors reports](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/25/macbook-pro-with-touchscreen-on-wednesday/?ref=skimwire.com). That's the day of Apple's "Pro and tell" experience in Los Angeles at 10 a.m. Pacific, which Apple VP Greg Joswiak [teased on Oct. 19](https://www.macworld.com/article/3264015/apple-teases-pro-and-tell-event-on-october-28.html?ref=skimwire.com). It's billed as an "Apple Experience," not a keynote, so expect press releases and likely hands-on time for invited guests rather than a big livestream.

According to Gurman, the new laptops look much like the current MacBook Pro but are lighter, with a Dynamic Island in place of the notch. They reportedly stick with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips Apple launched in March. On the software side, he says macOS will get a "dynamic interface" for touch: "The system will take previous interactions into account, presenting controls based on whether someone has been touching the display or using the trackpad." Touching a button can open a menu around your finger, and the Dock and menu bar have been tuned for touch. Apple will pitch touch as an extra option alongside the keyboard and trackpad, he says.

Gurman also reiterated that an [M6 iMac and an M6 entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/25/new-imac-and-14-inch-macbook-pro-m6-chip-rumors/?ref=skimwire.com) are coming Wednesday, both simple chip upgrades with no redesign. [The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/tech/1018169/what-to-expect-apple-pro-and-tell-event-touchscreen-macbook-pro?ref=skimwire.com) and [9to5Mac](https://9to5mac.com/2026/10/25/ipad-mini-8-redesign-with-oled-coming-this-week/?ref=skimwire.com) also expect an OLED iPad mini.

## Why it matters

This is a big reversal. Apple has kept touchscreens off the Mac for its entire history and pushed the iPad as its touchscreen computer. Windows laptops have offered touchscreens for more than a decade, so the interesting part isn't the hardware. It's whether Apple can make macOS feel natural under a finger without turning the Mac into an iPad.

It will cost you. The current mini-LED MacBook Pros with M5 Pro start at $2,499 (14-inch) and $2,999 (16-inch) in the US, per MacRumors, and Gurman says the OLED versions could start up to $500 higher. The mini-LED models will stay on sale for now but will eventually be phased out, he says, which gives cost-conscious buyers a cheaper Pro for a while. [9to5Mac](https://9to5mac.com/2026/10/25/macbook-pro-redesign-oled-touch-launching-this-week/?ref=skimwire.com) expects a three-tier lineup: the M6 base model, today's M5 Pro and M5 Max models, and the new OLED touch models at the top.

## What's next

If you're about to buy a MacBook Pro, wait until Wednesday. Even if you don't want touch, launches often reshuffle configurations and prices. We'll cover the announcements, real prices and availability once Apple makes them official. Until then, treat every detail here as a well-sourced report, not a confirmed spec sheet.
