## The skim

- Apple opened a Siri AI Developer Preview on Nov. 3 that lets any app plug its own content and actions into Siri AI through App Intents, starting with the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas.
- Developers can also write "skills" that teach Siri AI to chain several actions into one request, and Siri AI is getting new abilities in 15 of Apple's own apps, including Messages, Photos, Files and Safari.
- Don't expect it on your phone this week: Apple says it ships to customers "in a few months," and App Store submissions for these integrations open in the spring.

## What happened

Until now, Siri AI could only work with third-party apps through a limited set of Apple-defined categories. That changes with the first 27.3 betas. In a [developer announcement titled "Siri AI is now open to all developers,"](https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=gdk2umrf&ref=skimwire.com) Apple says the new preview "allows any app to bring its content and actions directly into Siri AI by using App Intents," tapping the assistant's personal context, onscreen awareness and natural-language understanding.

Apple's examples are everyday tasks: "from checking a delivery to booking a reservation to placing an order." For bigger jobs, developers can write **skills** that "teach Siri AI how to combine several actions into a single experience." Siri AI can also now surface any item in the Spotlight semantic index, not only ones that fit Apple's existing schemas.

You also won't always have to name the app. According to Apple's documentation, as reported by [The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/tech/1025694/apple-siri-ai-third-party-apps?ref=skimwire.com), that holds while the app is in the foreground, during its Live Activity, or in an ongoing Siri conversation about it. Apple's example: request a ride, then say "Hey Siri, change my ride pickup to a new address" while the ride's Live Activity is running.

## Apple's own apps go first

Apple is rolling the same capabilities into Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts and Weather. [9to5Mac's early testing](https://9to5mac.com/2026/11/03/ios-27-3-expands-siri-ai-with-many-new-capabilities-across-apple-apps/?ref=skimwire.com) found Siri AI can now schedule and edit iMessages, build and save Music playlists, create Calendar events with invitees and video links, rename people and pets in Photos, and sort or close Safari tabs. Apple says you can ask Siri AI what it can do in each app to find out.

## Why it matters

An assistant is only as useful as the apps it can reach. Until now, Siri AI's newest abilities stopped at the edge of Apple's own apps and a short list of supported app categories. Opening it to any app, and letting developers script multi-step skills, moves Siri closer to an assistant that can actually carry out tasks in the apps you use every day, from tracking a delivery to booking a table.

It also arrives with limits. Apple's notes say Siri AI is in beta, requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device set to a supported language (currently English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, with Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese coming), isn't available to users under 13, and remains unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS. Server-based features, including Siri AI, are subject to daily usage limits, and Apple says "expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future."

## What's next

Apple engineers are holding Apple Intelligence Group Labs for developers on Nov. 4-5\. For now, the integrations run only in developer builds; [iThinkDiff](https://www.ithinkdiff.com/siri-ai-developer-preview-third-party-apps/?ref=skimwire.com) reports that external TestFlight testers and App Store versions of apps don't get them yet. Apple says it will share terms and usage policies "soon." The 27.3 updates themselves, with the Apple-app improvements, are expected to reach the public later this year.
