## The skim

- Anthropic's draft IPO prospectus, seen by the Wall Street Journal, shows $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026, up from $1.1 billion a year earlier.
- It also shows an $80.7 billion net loss for the half, driven mostly by accounting charges, and roughly 20% of revenue coming from two customers.
- IFR reports Anthropic plans to file publicly on October 26, start its roadshow November 9 and price the following week, targeting up to $100 billion at a $2 trillion valuation.

## What the draft shows

The Wall Street Journal reviewed a new draft of Anthropic's S-1, the registration statement a company files with the SEC before going public, [per Techmeme's summary of the report](https://techmeme.com/261020/p40?ref=skimwire.com). The headline number: $16.3 billion in revenue for January through June 2026, compared with $1.1 billion in the first half of 2025.

The bottom line looks very different. The draft shows an $80.7 billion net loss for the first half, which the Journal attributes mainly to accounting charges rather than cash out the door. Charges like these typically come from repricing financial instruments tied to earlier funding rounds as a company's valuation climbs. The filing also flags concentration risk: about a fifth of revenue came from just two clients.

## The quarter that changes the story

The draft covers the first half, but investors have already heard about the third quarter. Anthropic told prospective investors last week that Q3 revenue rose 45% from the prior quarter to $16.8 billion, from $11.6 billion in Q2, and that it was profitable on an adjusted basis, [Reuters reported](https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/anthropics-q3-revenue-surges-45-to-nearly-17-billion-4950208?ref=skimwire.com), citing two people who attended. That 45% jump is still huge, but it's a slowdown from growth of more than 140% between Q1 and Q2, as [IFR noted](https://www.ifre.com/equities/2499407/anthropic-pushes-ahead-with-mid-november-ipo?ref=skimwire.com).

## The timeline

According to a person familiar with the process who spoke to IFR, Anthropic plans to file publicly with the SEC on October 26, launch its roadshow on November 9 and price the deal the week after. It is targeting up to $100 billion at a $2 trillion valuation, which would make it one of the largest listings ever. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs are leading the offering. None of this is final until the public filing lands.

## Why it matters

This would be the first time a frontier AI lab opens its books to public-market investors, and it's likely to come before OpenAI's own planned IPO. That makes Anthropic the test case for a big question: will investors pay a premium for a company growing this fast while spending enormous sums on chips, power and data centers? The risk-factors section, which the Journal describes as long, is worth reading when the public version drops: customer concentration and access to computing capacity are the two things to watch.
